It Ain't Easy Being Green ... Unless You Have This Swell Earth Day Weekend Round-Up for Reference

 

 

Grab your lawn chair/beach towel/portable grill and head to the Rose Kennedy Greenway for yet another free show. 92.5's concert features Citizen Cope and The Might Be Giants. Not too shabby. There might be the pesky little problem called your day job (the show runs from noon to 3) but, hey, it's Earth Day. Surely a valid reason to play hooky.

As part of MIT's Earth Week (of course those over-achievers over at MIT had to go and extend Earth Day by about 6 more) the university will be hosting a summit of approximately 25 speakers and panelists who will discuss some of today's most pressing environmental and social problems. Networking opportunities will abound at the all-day conference.

 

 

After all the free music that just came your way, it's only right that you give a little something back. Call it good old-fashioned cosmic karma, call it your civic duty, call it whatever you want, just stop by. We promise you'll feel really good about yourself afterwards. The big cleanup goes from 9am-noon, all along the Charles, where you'll join your fellow earth-minded citizens in beautifying one of Boston's greatest landmarks. OK, OK, so maybe this isn't technically an Earth Day event. But ... sheep! Being sheared! At a festival! And anyway, it doesn't really get any more earthy than attacking livestock with clippers, farmer-style. Wool not your textile of choice? Stop by for the dog-herding demonstrations, food vendors, and wagon rides. Speaking of sheep, have you checked out the amazing hybrid Sheep-Pig yet? It's pretty much the cutest thing since puppehs and kittehs.

Jeff Goodell stops by Porter Square Books to read from his planet-friendly tome. It's all about saving the climate through geoengineering which is, as we understand it, the process of shooting dust particles into the upper atmosphere to lower the temp of the planet by a few degrees.

 

Mother-daughter duo Frances Moore and Anna Lappé, eco-warriors and all-around clever ladies, will discuss Anna's new book, "Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It," at the Brattle Theatre. On the menu: the politics of food and a planet in crisis.

Local foodies, green entrepreneurs, healthy-living experts, and sustainability leaders will be mixing and mingling at this social-networking event for the green set.
