Meet the Mayor of 131 different places

Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in their natural habitats.

Eric Andersen

Why are you so competitive?
I enjoy Foursquare. It’s a way of sharing my daily life with people, and they’re sharing with me. I mostly only connect with people I know on Foursquare, so I’ve had lots of cases where I saw someone checked in nearby, texted them, and we hung out. Although, I’ve met about eight or 10 people through Foursquare.

Kind of like the "Missed Connections" on Craigslist?
This is very different.

You've never met anyone who terrified you?
Not at all. Terrifying people don’t use Foursquare that I know of. With Foursquare, there’s a lot of concern about privacy, unlike with some other social networks. You can use Foursquare a lot without sharing where you’re going with anyone, aside from who you trust.

If anybody on Foursquare would attract stalkers, wouldn't it be the dude with 131 mayorships?
I haven’t seen that. I think if people stalk, they’ll typically do it through something everyone is on, like Facebook.

Are you worried that a battle for a mayorship could erupt into physical violence?
The battles actually happen over Twitter. A lot of the people using Foursquare are Twitter geeks, so that’s their place to trash-talk.

Want to be interviewed about your Foursquare mayorship? Give us a shout: tweet @bostonphoenix or email listings@thephoenix.com. And for tips, friend us: foursquare.com/bostonphoenix.
