This year's music and arts fest in the California desert multiplies itself over two consecutive weekends this April, and upon first lineup glance, the list of performing acts seems lighter than in year's past, perhaps a result of the doubling-up festival organizers are experimenting with in 2012 (April 13-15, 20-22).

It's the CLASS OF 2012 edition of Boston Accents, where we had some bands hang out in the WFNX studio, spun the entire compilation -- which you can download for free via our Bandcamp -- and just had a merry ol' time, discussing everything from new music to upcoming shows to witch haus to Road House. Huge thanks to GLASS TEETH, GHOST BOX ORCHESTRA, YOUNG LONDON, LEISURE (who gave us a new track, "The Invisible Hand," to premiere), ANIMAL TALK, DIRTY VIRGINS, CALEB GROH, and CAMDEN (who rolled up mad late) for taking the trek up to Lynn.

Class of 2012 cover darlings YOUNG LONDON are about to blow up. After the electro-pop duo's first single "Let Me Go" provided the December soundtrack to scores of holiday shoppers in malls across the country, their debut full-length finally drops via Fugitive Records this Tuesday. To celebrate, Matt and Sarah hit the Middle East on January 17 for some hot, sweaty, record-release party action, but you can lay your eyes and ears on this teaser trailer that hit YouTube earlier today.

When it comes to Lansdowne, WFNX is letting the locals run with the big dogs. First it was Earthquake Party playing with Surfer Blood at Disorientation Night 2 a few weeks ago, then this past Friday it was Mean Creek taking the big stage at the House of Blues for the second Miracle holiday show alongside Matt & Kim and Mutemath (it was M-M-M good, k?).

A somber start to Boston Accents tonight, as we pour one out for DUSTIN HENGST of DAMONE, who passed away last week at the age of 39. The talented drummer was hospitalized for a few weeks with liver problems, and had been battling illness most of his life. The details and band reaction are in my On The Download post from Friday, but here we'll celebrate the music of Damone, which released three awesome records between 2002 and 2008, toured the world, and made a mark on Boston rock.

Ahoy! Missed y’all, as it’s been a few weeks since I’ve been in the FNX studio, thanks to the Boston Music Awards and Flashback Weekend. But we’re in the closing stretch of 2k11, so we’re looking at some of the better tracks released this year, as well as tucking some new jams in before the gates of time close forever.

Starting at 7pm tomorrow night -- just in time to tune-out relatives arriving from out-of-town -- WFNX goes into Flashback mode. Storm Zbel kicks off a holiday slate that stretches into Sunday night, when Julie Kramer serves up a Local Leftover edition of Boston Accents and Kurt St Thomas returns to the East Coast airwaves with "Nirvana: Nevermind It's An Interview."

Many questions will be answered at Sunday night's highly-anticipated BOSTON MUSIC AWARDS party at the swank-ass Liberty Hotel. Among the hot topics...

We once voted this the second greatest concert ever to happen in Boston: the legendary gig played by NIRVANA on the night before Nevermind was released, at WFNX's 8th birthday party at Axis. We just celebrated this gig's 20th anniversary -- Bullet LaVolta drummer Todd Philips, who opened the gig, wrote about it for us last month -- and we just heard the tapes of the Smashing Pumpkins set a few weeks ago

Last Friday at the House of Blues, Fitz & the Tantrums brought their soul-inflected indie pop to Boston. Right before the band's encore performance of their hit "Moneygrabber," singer/songwriter Michael "Fitz" Fitzpatrick told the audience that the band likes to get down and party -- literally.

Killer show tonight! We got into the details of the T.T. The Bear's Place renovations, played the entire Creaturos demo -- all 13 minutes, son -- and announced our ROOM PARTY next Sunday at the Liberty Hotel for the BOSTON MUSIC AWARDS. Live broadcast! Drunken interviews! Terrible-sounding in-room performances! Band pillow fights! Oh my.

Say what you will about becoming a Company Man or whatever, but this is awesome news from our very own radio station. WFNX today announced tomorrow's FREEFORM FRIDAY, November 11, and its upcoming FLASHBACK WEEKEND which soundtracks your Thanksgiving weekend, November 23 to 27.

Essentially, Freeform Friday is when the station allows the DJs to play whatever the hell they want.
