Review: Farmageddon

The good guys are still knee deep in cow shit, so to speak

Ah, yes — another fine documentary about how low the US government will go to protect corporate monsters at the expense of your health. This time it turns out that the USDA is as crooked as any of the three-letter agencies, their war on raw milk terrorizing farms and families nationwide. Spurred into action by the health miracles that organic foods brought her children, first time director Kristin Canty is hardly an ignorant Jenny McCarthy-style alarmist. Rather, she's a concerned citizen asking questions about why federal and state food regulators are less interested in science than Texas Republicans. In documenting the politicized assaults on farmers, Canty could have gone further in exploring the monied motivations behind these actions. Nevertheless, she proves her hard-to-swallow point — that independent food systems are under attack, and that shitbag bureaucrats and armed agents are wrongfully slaughtering healthy animals.
