After a night of partying, a jaded crew of revelers wake up to find that the planet has been invaded by bloodthirsty aliens. The premise of this low-budget sci-fi thriller might be familiar from Signs, War of the Worlds, and Cloverfield, but the lesser acting talent is more in line with Plan 9 from Outer Space. At least Skyline builds momentum. The pretty peeps spouting platitudes with porn-star affect actually get to do something worth your while once Armageddon descends on LA, even if that mostly consists of holing up in a penthouse and avoiding the death rays from the behemoth spacecrafts or the more personal attentions from the robo-reptilian hit squads. Made by FX-designers-turned-directors Colin and Greg Strause, Skyline dazzles with its visuals, and it keeps you watching, if only to learn what the invaders' motives are and what their weaknesses might be.
