Review: Lottery Ticket

New Friday movie is almost two-dimensional

Erik White's film stars Bow Wow as a nice project kid fresh out of high school who hits the jackpot and must dodge trifling neighbors before he can cash in his $350 million ticket. So it's kind of like a few days in the life for most rappers, complete with cameos from Ice Cube, Bill Bellamy, and Charlie Murphy.

If you look past such relentless black-comedy clichés as the greedy oversexed preacher (Mike Epps) and some black variations on white stereotypes like the gratuitous Eddie Haskell sidekick Benny (Brandon T. Jackson), this addition to the Friday canon is almost two-dimensional, definitely heartfelt, and absolutely funny.

Keep a lookout for Bow Wow's bony bodyguard, Deangelo (Malieek Straughter); the animated newcomer rocks his small supporting role in a performance that begs comparisons with Martin Lawrence in Do the Right Thing and Chris Rock in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka.
