Meet the Mayor: Raven Used Books

Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in their natural habitats.

Raven Used Books
Ed Kammerer

Read any good books lately?
All I read is for my dissertation on law and public policy. I read a lot of boring law books.

Why would anyone want to write such a thing?
I have no idea. I'm a lawyer, technically, so I went to grad school so I could teach instead of being a lawyer. That way, I'll be able to take summers off and read books that aren't about law and public policy. I have an addiction to books. It's like crack, but healthier.

Books are healthier than crack?
They expand your mind.

So does crack.
Yeah, but books are unlikely to kill you unless they land on you.

Interesting. Buy anything today?
I spent $40 on a mix of classics and science fiction. Let's leave it at that.

You're embarrassed to be reading classics and science fiction?
They don't embarrass me, it's just not my usual educated reading. I want people to think I'm smart, you see. It's the lawyer/professor thing. I've got to make people think I know what I'm talking about at all times. Lawyers go out of their way to look smart all the time.
