This Week's Local Comedy Picks
On the heels of this weekend's alternative comedy extravaganza comes The Greater Boston Alternative Comedy Festival, Tuesday, May 12, 8 pm at the Middle East Upstairs. Spearheaded by local comedian/champion of local comedy Robby Roadsteamer, the festival is a one-night orgy of laughs, featuring an all-local lineup of some of Boston's most accomplished comedians, all for only $8. Win!
The Women in Comedy Festival (WICF) kicks off on Wednesday, May 13, 8pm at ImprovBoston. Though it's not an exclusively female lineup (there is a "funny guys" showcase), this estrogen-friendly festival looks to celebrate lady-friendly funny in the form of stand-up, sketch, improv, and short films. The festival runs through Sunday, May 17, and ticket prices range from $7-$25. $70 gets you an all-inclusive show pass. The WICF is also running two writing workshops for $65 a pop; visit the festival's website for a full schedule of shows, ticket prices, and show line-ups.
Fresh off his Letterman debut, local comedian Joe Wong tapes an hour-long set at The Comedy Studio, 6 pm on Saturday, May 16.
Last Comic Standing winner and Paralympian Josh Blue hits The Wilbur Theatre on Saturday, May 16, at 7pm.
