O. Winston Link & Carmel Vittulo Photography
bert gallery
O. Winston Link left college in Brooklyn in the late '30s and headed to Louisiana to capture some of the day-to-day culture with his camera. He was on assignment for a PR firm, which was then his bread and butter gig. The assignment was to balance the bad press the state was getting due to political scalawags. Revealing the "lifestyle, commerce, and industries" of the area was the job at hand. The resultant images spoke volumes, launching his career as an artist. Carmel Vittulo also left school (RISD) and found her voice rather quickly. Capturing mid-century street images in Providence and New York (her "Grand Central Station" is iconic), she began to turn heads with the emotions she brought to the fore. Black-and-white photos by both, several never seen before, comprise "Documenting A Moment, A Place, An Era" at Bert Gallery, 540 South Water Street, Providence. The show runs through August 28 | 401.751.2628
