BÉla Fleck
cable car cinema
Because he has a great hunger for music, BÉla Fleck recently rolled through Africa, spending time in Mali, Tanzania, Uganda, and other countries, interacting with string players, percussionists, and singers galore. Along the way he recorded lots of the action, and Throw Down Your Heart, Africa Sessions: Tales From the Acoustic Planet Volume 3 (Rounder), has been cited as one of the more entertaining discs of 2009. Indeed, it's rather gorgeous. But he also filmed lots of the interplay, and is ready, willing, and able to explain the revelations and travails regarding the trip when he comes to the Cable Car Cinema, 204 South Main Street, Providence, to answer questions regarding the Throw Down Your Heart documentary. The film will be screened and the virtuoso banjo player will do a little picking at 7 and 9 pm | $12 (tickets on sale on July 10 at 9 am) | 401.272.3970
