Educated Advocates

Educated Advocates, we are sorry that we've been sleeping on you. Comprised of three heavy hitters in Maine rap, Educated Advocates are Ghost, Jay Caron (formerly of Ill Natural), and MC Mike B. of Waterville — and they deliver a great live show.

Head-nodding beats and classic delivery styles conjure up an early-'90s vibe reminiscent of Common, Lost Boyz, and Gang Starr. These three MCs have each had enough individual stage experience to bring a tight game. It's evident they're familiar with their own and each other's material and get behind it all with equal energy as they back one another and constantly move around the stage.

The audience was not bogged down by heavy content or dark beats; rather the Big Easy crowd was anxious to position themselves right in front as they danced, sang along, and raised their glasses in shows of support. Their fan base is devoted, and seem psyched to have something they can relate to.

Light-hearted lyrics and infectious hooks make Educated Advocates an easy listen. Sure there is plenty of talk of alcohol and puffing, but they never dabble in the inexcusable misogyny. Jay pretty much summarizes their style in the track, "Take It," "Smooth but rugged with rhymes that are intelligent."
