Marie Moreshead
• Old pal MARIE MORESHEAD has since flown on to Los Angeles, but you can hear a five-track document of her travels in a new recording of gently melodic, modern folk-pop. Moreshead's 24 now; this dry, intimate live recording is definitely more worldly and "indie" than either her self-titled debut or 2009's Birdwatchers EP (which had help from Pete Kilpatrick), and her songwriter's personality is rounding into form. Moreshead's songs are still warmly acoustic, but her vocals are crisp and way up in the mix, making audible all the whispery little exhalations that go along with her lyrics. Check out Topanga Sessions at mariemoreshead.bandcamp.com and keep an ear out for the next full-length.

•Traveling troubadour CONNOR GARVEY was recently selected as one of 10 finalists to compete in the Wildflower Festival Performing Singer Songwriter Competition, which he then went and won (one of three winners, he was). Big moments for the funky folk-rock dude, who's still floating on last year's When Ocean Meets Land LP — he wasn't just the only Maine participant, he was the only one from north of the Mason-Dixon Line!

•There's a new EP record by the rootsy holler-folk band GHOST OF PAUL REVERE, who formerly prefaced their name with bandleader Griffin Sherry. The Buxton group are now a five-piece, and have stepped up their game of late, playing high-profile shows at Flask Lounge and Kennebunk's Hive. They aim to put out their forthcoming record, North, this summer, and meanwhile prep for a show on their biggest stage yet, One Longfellow Square, where on June 5 they play a benefit show with the romping piano balladeer KRIS RODGERS. Hear two tracks of the stripped-down, masculine bluegrass from North at ghostofpaulrevere.bandcamp.com.
