Death rattles

Headhunter and Kid Blue so dope it’s scary
By SUSANNA BOLLE  |  October 29, 2008

Over the past two years, Bristol’s HEADHUNTER has established himself as one of dubstep’s most innovative up-and-comers, with a slew of fantastic EPs; now, his first full-length, Nomad, is out on the Tempa imprint. Producers in the UK and elsewhere have been blurring the lines between dubstep and minimal techno; Nomad is one of the most fluent fusions of hard, sub-shredding dubstep and the sensuously atmospheric dub techno pioneered by the likes of Berlin’s Basic Channel. Of course, Headhunter also unleashes the occasional straight-up, monstrous wub-wub crowd pleaser for good measure. Tonight (October 30) he’ll make a second visit to Good Life. By all accounts, he slayed ’em when he came through last year, so it’s only fitting that he return to serenade the undead.

Co-headliner and Leeds native KID BLUE also fuses genres with reckless abandon, though with slightly more popular club styles than those favored by the resolutely subterranean Headhunter. The founder of the immensely successful Technique club night and a current resident DJ at London’s Chew the Fat, the Kid mixes techno, house, and breaks — with a heavy emphasis on low end. You can listen to a new mix on his MySpace page.

Oh and zombie-themed costumes are encouraged.
