Weekly Playlist #11: The Milling Gowns [12.07 @ Radio], The Fatal Flaw, The Shills, The Vital Might
Guitars roar mighty in this week’s playlist, kicking off with a slow rumble from the prowling post-punk sounds of THE MILLING GOWNS, whose “Zenith” is our black-clad selection off their new EP, Something Dangerous Loves Me, which gets the release party treatment Friday night at Radio on a growling bill with Plumerai and Velah.
But from the depths of that darkened gloom comes positivity in “You Need To Know” by THE FATAL FLAW, a power-pop love letter written by Joel Reader to his wife as she successfully battled cancer earlier this year (pay attention to the lyrics). You can hear the track live in action on December 14 as the band hits the aforementioned Radio as part of the Lights Out's holiday two-night stand.
From there we have a relentless track by rock-and-roll-veterans THE SHILLS, who take on Great Scott this Saturday despite a last-minute cancelation from Spacehog, and we close with a sweeping track from prog-minded THE VITAL MIGHT, who release their Eclipse record this Saturday at Radio, a club that's keeping Boston rock all sorts of busy these days.
