Home Invasion -- Townies and Out-of-Towners Split Ears in Somerville

Tonight the Starlab in Somerville plays host to Philadelphia's M AX NOI MACH (Robert Francisco) and MARK LORD (Christopher Forgues), a Providence noisemaker formerly known as Kites.

Francisco's work touches upon power electronics, industrial noise, and even experimental hip-hop, but he tends to eschew the traditional imagery and content associated with each style. Forgues, a true eccentric, is known for his intermittent and electrifying performances as well as his graphic novels and forays into visual art. I've added his debut LP under the new moniker, "Pussy Street," to my playlist in preparation for the show. Tonight, Karlheinz and Shane "Shame" Broderick, two local power electronics stalwarts, are joining the touring acts; Karl is recognized for his obstreperous live sets, aggressive, tactless demonstrations of his subversive ideas. Broderick, an imposing figure on the local scene, is often associated with his previous project, Two Dead Sluts, One Good Fuck, a group that revived the phrase "banned in Boston."

Broderick, who usually performs as Corephallism, assembled tonight's lineup and promises to set the tone for the rest of the evening. The show was originally scheduled at Jacques Cabaret; when the club decided to, ahem, pull out, Egan Budd of Existence Establishment made things happen and salvaged the show. He'll be appearing tonight as DJ XDementia and spinning between sets alongside DJ Gape Arson.

8pm, $7, email egan@existest.org for directions.
