Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker to release solo "middle-aged mom record" in October

Thanks to YouTube -- and a recent Carrie Brownstein interview that included the words "Sleater-Kinney reunion" -- we've been thinking a lot lately about what the hell ever happened to CORIN TUCKER. Janet Weiss got QUASI back together. Carrie became a semi-famous NPR bloggist and part-time radio personality. By the time Corin put up a Facebook fan page, everyone knew a solo album was in the works. (We, of course, have been demanding one since the breakup.) But now, via a Kill Rock Stars press release touting an official release month (October), we have this interview from the Portland Mercury, in which she describes what she's been working on.

The gist: quieter, folkier, solo-ier. Recorded with Sara from Unwound and Seth from Golden Bears. Pretty much what you'd expect from watching the YouTubes. And no, Corin's not ready to go back to touring. " My life's a lot different now. I have two kids, and any work that I do needs to be on a much different scale and schedule," she tells the Mercury. "It's not that I'm going to be a stay-at-home mom for the rest of my life—obviously I'm not. I hope to have some kind of music in my future. But I can't just shift gears suddenly, and be like, 'I'm going on tour! See ya!' " What, you mean Lance won't watch the kids?

Q: Does this album work off any particular theme?

A: It's definitely more of a middle-aged mom record, in a way. It's not a record that a young person would write. But I am the worst person in the world to describe my own lyrics, so I'm not even going to try! I do think I'm trying to write stories, though, and that I take certain feelings or certain experiences and put them into a little story. And there are definitely some ghosts on the record, too—ghost songs. There's some sadness, some reinvention, some rebirth. I think the goal for me is to write some good stories.

 Um . . . paging Kristin Hersh?
