Globe names Wangsness as religion writer

Former Globe religion reporter Michael Paulson is a tough act to follow. But I'm pleased to report that the paper has tapped political reporter Lisa Wangsness to replace Paulson, who's now the paper's city editor.

I've covered some of the same stories as Wangsness (e.g. the '06 governor's race) and have read her stuff closely for years: she's an excellent writer with a keen eye for telling detail, and should do a very good job in her new post.

I am pleased to announce that Lisa Wangsness, who returns to the Metro fold
from snowy DC next March, will become our new religion reporter. The skills
she has demonstrated during her five years at the Globe -- as both a
determined hard-news reporter tackling some of the most complex topics and
one of our finest chroniclers of human emotion -- will serve her (and us)
well in this new post.

Lisa came to the Globe from the Concord Monitor in April 2005 to work at
the Globe's City Hall bureau. A year later, she joined the team covering
the governor's race and then moved to the State House for the first six
months of the Patrick administration. She helped cover the presidential
primary and general election campaigns, joining the Washington bureau in
Sept. 2008. Since the election, she has been immersed in the coverage of
health care reform, a topic she had hoped to see through to its conclusion
before Scott Brown and his truck came along.
