The result of Beautiful Things's creative collaborations often surprised even Green. And though he admits the unplanned aspect of the process was "scary — I'm used to wanting more control over things," it's clearly revitalized him. When discussing his collaboration with Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno (a song that ended up on the iTunes version of the album), Green describes listening to the song over and over again, brimming with the kind of excitement he felt the first time he ever recorded in a real studio.

"I just got that feeling where I was super-proud," he says. "It's happened so much on this record. It's really what I needed — I needed to feel like I did something I was really proud of, no matter what. No matter what happens with the album, just having that feeling, that's what you want to aim for."
