LEISURE

CLASS OF 2012 TRACK"GREEN LIGHT" [Listen] [Download]

Let's get this out of the way right off the top: Leisure are not named after the 1991 Blur album. But though there might not be a real story behind the moniker — at least the Cambridge trio isn't letting on — the notion of leisure does embody the loose, effortless ease with which Jed Rouhana, Sam Hamad, and Chris Link create deliberate modern-pop sounds. The dramatic twirl of 2011 single "Green Light" was augmented by its corresponding visuals — a black-and-white and sepia-toned music video created by Hamad, using visuals from Krzysztof Kieslowski's art-house epic Three Colors Trilogy. It worked because the music of Leisure feels tangible, like something you'd see flaunting around town just before last call. With a new 7-inch coming out on New York label/blog Turntable Kitchen, a new Hamad-curated music video, and the long-awaited Plastic Soul album released on the band's own imprint in February, these Belmont natives now honing their pop craft in Porter Square should have a busy 2012.
