GL▲SS †33†H

CLASS OF 2012 TRACK "DEAD DREAMER" [Listen] [Download]

Back in October we described GL▲SS †33†H (pronounced "Glass Teeth") as "vaguely creepy stuff, with icy beds of synth stabbings atop roiling electronic beats and a heady swirl of processed vocals." It was appropriate then, and it's appropriate now. But as the world's acknowledgment of witch haus begins to extend beyond Halloween, it's important to note the solo project of Xavier Glass is more about darkening the dance floor than about any trendy subgenre. Last year's minatory CD-R — released off UK label Phantasma Disques, home to GL▲SS †33†H collaborator and haus kingpin Mater Suspiria Vision, as well as BL§§D ØU† and, of course, fromrussiawithaids — was pure brooding evil, from the operatic murder of "X" to the strobe-lit throttle of "Dead Dreamer." With a new EP out early this year off experimentally minded Pale Noir Records, GL▲SS †33†H masterfully merge disco for the undead with mainstream-pop ambition. In an apocalyptic 2012, these unsettling sounds are not just for October anymore.
