MORE ABOUT EMERSON & THOREAU

Emerson and Thoreau is an up-and-coming band from Portland, Maine; even though Emerson and Thoreau is a relatively young musical project (it began January of 2009), they already played multiple shows this summer, at venues such as Geno's Rock Club in Portland, Naples Family Campground in Naples, Bentley's Saloon in Arundel, Studio B789 in Rollinsford, NH, and Wassamki Springs Campground in Scarborough. They also have an upcoming show at The Big Easy in Portland and are planning on more shows at both Bentley's Saloon and Wassamki Springs Campground. They’ve even been talking with the Yarmouth Clam Festival committee and hope to be playing at YCF ‘10.
The Emerson and Thoreau myspace page is managed by the band members themselves. The band just finished recording their demo with the help of Richard DeCosta at Whalesound Recordings in Falmouth, ME. The demo is available for your listening pleasure on their myspace page.

All of the members have years of previous experience playing live (the bass player and singer are both former members of another local band called The Side Scrollers). The Side Scrollers, though they most frequently played at Geno’s on Congress Street in Portland, played all over New England, from bars, to conventions, to colleges. The drummer of Emerson and Thoreau formerly played the saxophone in both the Westbrook High School Marching Band and the Bonny Eagle Jazz Club.

The Emerson and Thoreau set list is comprised of all original songs. The song list is twenty-eight songs long, and if played in its entirety, it amounts to approximately two-and-a-half hours of music as of the time of this writing, though new songs are always being added. While the myspace page initially focused on the band's more tame tracks, at least one-third of the set list (songs like "The Glue" and "All System Argo") are clearly influenced by classic and progressive rock. Some of the songs may contain very minor profanity, but the band does self-censor depending on the venue, the audience, and/or requests from the employer.
