MORE ABOUT DJ DIE YOUNG
Boston boy all his life, DJ Die Young started his career with gigs at Sweet 16s, high school dances and a love for Yes and Peter Gabriel. "I've always loved 80s pop since my mother played it to me to get me to go to sleep when I was a little kid," says Die Young. "But, Yes taught me that while pop is great, you can say amazing things about mountains coming out of the sky in 23 minute one sided tracks too." And although it seems morbid, his DJ name actually comes from the 80s song "Don't Let Me Die Young" by Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor. Now what usually comes off the 24-year-old's tables is French Touch, House, Electro, and Minimal. Party Music. He's good with a sequencer, a keyboard, midi triggers and, lately, the tambourine. But he can also play the drums in a way that would make Low and Slowdive proud. You can find Die Young spinning around town at his Make it New residency, the Basstown monthly or his rotating night Solid! At Zuzu. He also had the opportunity to open for a recent idol of his, The Field, in July at Great Scott. And his luck doesn't stop there -- famous American Breaks DJ Icey played his track "French the World" (Lil Louis vs. Dj Die Young) his satellite radio show. In addition, he was just nominated for best DJ in Boston by the Phoenix and just got to play with the esteemed Mad Decent running, MIA producing, Diplo. Once he conquers the world and has his pick of gigs, he'd like to play with Cassius, Daft Punk, and Bjork. "Her records meant a lot to me growing up and she always was forward thinking in terms of dance music," he says. "I never thought I wouldn't be somewhat successful DJing because, above all, it's what I love to do," says Die Young.
