MORE ABOUT MIA AND JONAH

Even before they met, you might have seen them. Mia: in SF singing a song our two at Bazaar Cafe’s Songbird Series with artists Jolie Holland, Sean Hayes, and Eric McFadden. Jonah: off-Broadway, strumming a guitar in his own self-written, self-produced production, “The Golden Ass”, as a part of NYC’s Fringe Festival. They were making music, and making musicals, and making magic. This is what they were doing when their paths first crossed.

Girl Meets Boy
Fall 2003 - Exhausted after a long show in the Bay Area, Mia falls asleep- at the venue. While she is sleeping, the crowd starts to slip away. Her ride home slips away. In fact, everyone slips away save a few straggling performers gathering their gear. Imagine Jonah’s surprise as he discovers the disheveled heap of Mia passed out on the carpeted floor. Imagine Mia’s surprise as she wakes up to the tender sound of Jonah’s voice singing her a lullabye.

Boy Offers Girl a Ride Home
Groggy, foggy and faded Mia wakes up to discover she has no way home. Jonah does the only gentlemanly thing to do and offers her a ride. Catch, he can’t deliver her to her destination until the following morning. Seeing how it’s the only offer available at the time (Jonah’s gentle voice still singing in her head) Mia accepts. Mia never could get the sound of Jonah’s voice out of her head, and now they travel around together, music, musicals, and magic in tow.

“There’s a time when forces roll us, like dolphins on a sea of crashing waves.” – Troubled Mind (Shine I - 2005)

Forming the band Mia and Jonah they made their first album “Shine I” with an all star cast: Myles Boisen(Co-Producer, Electric Guitar – TOM WAITS), Seth-Ford Young(Upright Bass –TOM WAITS), and John Hanes(Drums –BONNIE RAITT). “Shine I” has been met with great enthusiasm from folks all around the world. The poetry in Shine I has been heralded as “poignant and heart-wrenching”, the songs as “full of the timeless intuitive beauty that makes music memorable”(Performer Magazine).

“A miracle will take you to a window in the wall, and a window in the stars. . .” – Rooms (Rooms for Adelaide - 2008)

Holding their hopes and dreams high, Mia and Jonah pulled together the same team of players that worked on “Shine I” to make more magic. “Rooms for Adelaide” due for release January 2008 has won the praise of Walnotes reviewer as, “the best cd I’ve listened to in awhile”. They have plans to hit the road with “Rooms” taking it nationwide the year of '08.

As Mia and Jonah, they have played with fine acts such as Toshi Reagon, Camper Van Beethoven’s Jonathan Segel and Victor Krummencher, Kid Beyond, and Austin Willacy.

They’ve played venues such as: The Fillmore Poster Room & Café Du Nord(SF), The Knitting Factory & The Cat Club(LA), the Bitter End(NY).

Who do they sound like?
“Jeff Buckley-esque blend of country, folk, and rock. . .” - SF Chronicle
“they remind me of the powerful duo of Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. . . the way that both duos make me feel. One big difference is. . . Mia and Jonah give the air of being warm and loving.” – Walnotes
They’ve also been compared to Hem and Cowboy Junkies. What do you think?
