If you pester them enough, the members of the Pierce Woodward Trio will confess that they met as undergraduates at Harvard. Needle Pierce a little further and he'll concede that he studied in the economics department. "I know, I know," Pierce will allow, "not the typical background for a broke songwriter with an Ani DiFranco fetish." But before you can start making wisecracks about budget deficits, he will have already begun introducing you to the rhythm section: upright bassist Gian Pangaro and drummer Andy Eggers. Both armed with jazz training, the two bring imaginative support to Pierce's understated songwriting style. The Trio's debut CD, Steer was released in October, 2000 on the group's own Long Run Records.
