Formed in the late 90’s beneath the broken-mill charcoal skyline of Lowell, Massachusetts, Babygun is for the first time emerging with a defined sound and a mission. The mission is simple: to share something with every fan, listener or even passer-by that their music is able to reach. Rob DaSilva (vocals/guitar), Brian Merrow (drums) and Mark Oberg (Bass) formed this solid 3 piece with the more recent addition of keyboardist Bryan Riley, after navigating through a twisted path of band members and sonic possibilities. Taking-on inspiration from graceful and graceless alike such as Jeff Buckley, The Buzzcocks, David Bowie, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, and The Sheila Divine, their sound can be described as a trip to the alter with a black eye. There is uniqueness found in the approach to the band’s writing style where songs evolve within themselves unfurling at their end into new directions, sounds, and rhythms while retaining melody. DaSilva’s Lennon meets Morrissey vocal style contains lyrics with tangible emotions echoing over a soundtrack of visceral percussion, unique and catchy bass lines, and novel chord structures. Emotional sacrifice, the dread of uncertainty, the pain of loss and the elation of love are all concepts that are dealt with directly by Babygun in their music.
