Eat, eat!

Not all of us can enjoy the experience of hearing an Italian family member yell “Mangia, mangia!” (“Eat, eat!”) during a meal. Lucky for us, there’s this North End diamond-in-the-rough deli, where supreme subs compel us to eat, eat, and eat some more!

Start with a cup of chicken escarole soup with rice ($3.25), brimming with rice, shredded chicken, escarole, and carrot chunks swimming in a rich chicken broth. It could easily serve as a stand-alone meal, and it’s steps above the average chicken-noodle soup.

Plunge into a basket of succulent chicken fingers ($4), containing chicken-breast tenderloins with a crunchy golden-brown crust. They’re served with sides of zesty barbecue sauce and a tangy-sweet duck sauce that’s good enough to eat with a spoon.

The classic cheeseburger ($3.25) is a well-seasoned, juicy patty smothered with American cheese, with your choice of lettuce, pickles, tomato, ketchup, mayo, and a variety of other burger-worthy toppings, served on a sesame-seed bun.

Indulge in the heavenly meatball sub ($4.75), loaded with six seasoned meatballs smothered in a hearty marinara sauce and a thick layer of provolone cheese within a sliced Italian loaf. While it could easily feed four people, try mustering up the stamina to “eat, eat” the entire sub in one sitting.

Mangia Mangia, located at 147 Endicott Street, in Boston, is open Monday through Friday, from 5 am to 3:30 pm. Call 617.523.1768.
