Was 300 historically precise? Did Gladiator get that whole gladiator thing right? A group of experts will discuss the accuracy of our current understanding of ancient societies. How often do you find yourself in the presence of someone who's been knighted for his service to the newspaper industry? Here's your chance to bask in the courtly glow of Sir Peter Stothard, editor of the Times Literary Supplement. His recent memoir, The Spartacus Road, got raves for interspersing his journey in the steps of the Thracian slave army with an account of his bout with pancreatic cancer. Joining Stothard are Caroline Alexander — author of The War That Killed Achilles, a look at the historical context of and the contemporary lessons to be gleaned from Homer's Iliad — and Stacy Schiff, New York Times columnist and Cleopatra biographer. Phoenix executive editor and resident classicist Peter Kadzis will host.
