Cormega
Harpers Ferry
When Nas dropped his classic Illmatic back in 1993, his long-time
Queensbridge-housing-projects confederate (and early collaborator in the Firm
crew) Cormega was doing time for gun
possession. Following his release from Rikers Island, the latter, no surprise, beefed
with his former homeboy, alleging that the tales of gun busting and crack
pushing Nas told were really his. (Think Gusto in the Chris Rock film CB4.)
Whether his rhymes are fully legit or hood hyperbole, Cormega is the grimy side
of rap music's pre-eminent griot, as well as one of independent hip-hop's
mightiest success stories. Most important, though, dude's "jewels are so
colorful that his daughter don't gotta watch cartoons." He's at Harpers Ferry,
158 Brighton Ave, Allston | 8 pm | $15 | www.harpersferryboston.com.
