ACT UP New York: Activism, Art, and the AIDS Crisis 1987-1993
Carpenter Center
AIDS has been a dire problem for a great deal longer than
the government has cared about it, as "ACT
UP New York: Activism,
Art, and the AIDS Crisis 1987-1993" reminds us. A collaboration between the
Carpenter Center
for the Visual Arts and the Harvard Art Museum, the exhibit is packed with protest art
from the darker times of America's
battle with AIDS. From furious to terrified, indignant to pleading, but always
with a desperate sense of urgency, this collection of images and videos shows
us how far we've come while reminding us how far we have yet to go. It'll be at Carpenter
Center for the Visual
Arts, 24 Quincy St, Cambridge | October 15-December 23;
reception October 15 @ 7 pm | Free | www.ves.fas.harvard.edu
