Amanda Palmer

The working title for AMANDA PALMER’s solo album is Who Killed Amanda Palmer?, but the Dresden Doll says she’s toying with another: That’s Amanda Fucking Palmer to You. “Don’t know if that’ll fly at Wal-Mart,” the singer/pianist adds. Palmer and her Dresden Dolls partner, drummer Brian Viglione, are pursuing separate paths at present. Viglione is playing with HUMANWINE, who celebrate the release of their new album at the Paradise on April 20. Palmer is preparing to record on her own with BEN FOLDS producing. “Ben got in touch with me through the Web site after he heard the Dresden Dolls and decided we were one of his new favorite bands. We organized some shows together in Australia, and the minute we got in the same room together, I could tell it was going to work. Ben and I have the same idiotic sense of humor and almost creepy psychic similarities when it comes to songwriting.” The plan is to record the disc at his Nashville studio over the course of the spring. “A lot of the songs are piano ballads that never found a home on a Dolls record, because I hadn’t wanted to overload the record with slow material. But there’s a really intense, exciting energy to the tracks at the same time. It definitely won’t drag.” She’s planning to tour next year. But first the Dresden Dolls will play the “True Colors” Human Rights Campaign concert at Bank of America Pavilion June 16 with Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, and others.

Dogmatics singer JERRY LEHANE has put together a benefit at the Baseball Tarvern’s Basement for a leukemia-stricken friend, contractor Rich O’Neil. Originally slated for April 14, it’s now spread over two nights, May 26 and 27, with Lehane’s GOUT 32 (playing old punk favorites), Eric Martin’s ILLYRIANS, and the SWINEDELLS all signed on . . . On May 25, the North Shore teenage pop-punk foursome the MYSTERY TRAMPS play an 18-plus show with SEÑOR HAPPY at the Paradise Lounge. Which means the 17-and-under Tramps, who are celebrating the release of Cure for the Common Misconception, wouldn’t be old enough to get into their own show.
