Flat Breads Café

‘Good for you’ never tasted so good
By LEAH BEN-AMI  |  December 13, 2006

Moderately health-conscious Boston College students, staff, and faculty know Flat Breads Café is the perfect place for cheap and nutritious wraps (and even a bit of entertainment, as you watch your delicacy get made). Now you know too.

The wide range of wraps can be overwhelming at first, with menu sections ranging from “Deli Style” to “Flat Bread Specialties.” But many regulars opt for the classic Chestnut Hill wrap ($5.99), with crisp lettuce and tomato rolled in a pita packed with chunks of tender chicken breast, crunchy celery, and creamy mayo. Or the Tiberon ($5.99), loaded with smoked turkey breast, buttery avocado, sun-dried tomato, delicate sprouts, and mayo hugged in a pita — a perfect comfort-food-with-a-twist selection. But creative meat lovers try the “Always Special” club ($6.49), a pita packed with turkey, grilled chicken breast, roast beef, or ham; plus, mayo, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and crunchy bacon.

After making your selection, an audience may gather to watch the Flat Breads artisan work his magic. Somehow, he seems to fire up to five wraps at a time, skillfully coordinating the microwaves with topping preparation before cutting them in two seconds flat. Don’t try this at home! What you should try at home, however, is eating the second half of your colossal wrap, which you’re smart enough to save for later.

Flat Breads Café, located at 11 Comm Ave, Chestnut Hill | Open Mon - Sat, 8:30 am - 8:30 pm; and Sun, 9 am - 7:30 pm | 617.964.8484.
