Best Inventive Japanese Dishes
Kabuki
Considering that something as plain as white rice is the foundation of their cuisine, some pretty remarkable dishes are built upon it at KABUKI. So many presentations, whether elaborate or simple, are set before you looking like sculptures you feel guilty breaking up to eat. Black strands of vermicelli, sometimes decorated with pansy petals, might stand guard. Elaborate hand rolls with interesting names like Angry Dragon are colorful with ingredients, looking like decorated kimonos. In the entrée called Under the Sea, a lobster tail, giant sea scallops, and shrimp surround a tower of citrus-infused Korean black rice like they are guarding a mountain. And those wasabi tuna “dumplings,” purses made of thin slices of raw tuna, proffering that green horseradish and black roe — how can you resist the offer? | 91 Old Tower Hill Road, Wakefield | 401.788.0777 | kabukicuisine.com
