Best Impromptu Picnic Fare
Hudson Street Delicatessen
It isn’t the original Hudson Market, but the owners of HUDSON STREET DELICATESSEN have won over their West End neighbors since opening six months ago in the same location. Shelves of locally-sustained produce, Narragansett Creamery cheeses and spreads, Yacht Club sodas, and Boar’s Head sliced to order remain on site, plus those $9 full-sized subs (as in a full loaf of Crugnale’s Italian bread). Alas, there’s no chalkboard with step-by-step options anymore, but the new owners are super-friendly and will customize any sub, from “The Community Garden,” a loaded and vibrant veggie wrap, to “The Grinder,” a classic Italian jazzed up with roasted reds and their in-house “Italian salsa.” Or keep it simple with the $2.50 PB and raspberry J on white bread. Breakfast burritos and killer egg sandwiches, too. Stock up and slide over to Dexter Park for an impromptu picnic. | 68 Hudson Street, Providence | 401.228.8555
