Best Gem In The Westerly Rough
Bruna’s Table
The town isn’t known for great Italian restaurants, but with a large population of Calabrian and Sicilian extraction, it should. (Maybe they can’t agree on the recipes — after all, Calabria is the toe of the boot poised to kick Sicily.) But at BRUNA’S TABLE, all can agree on the meaning of “Mangia! Mangia! Mangia!” Aiming for further amity, the proprietors use their mother’s Tuscan and Abruzzese family recipes. Not stopping there, their veal osso bucco is served with risotto alla Milanese. Yes, the food: a marinara sauce with just the right balance of tart and sweet; black truffle butter on their pepper-crusted sirloin; sweet potato polenta with the ambitious arrosto di maiale alla Toscana, which is roast pork “seasoned,” as the menu puts it, with prosciutto and pesto. | 12 Canal Street, Westerly | 401.637.4888 | brunastable.com
