Best Buzz And Biscotti
Beehive Café
|
The first buzz about the BEEHIVE CAFÉ was: “Eli’s back!” Chef Eli Dunn’s pies are legendary, since he learned to bake pies from his mom, Phoebe Dunn, who created fabulous fruit pies for 20 years at Phoebe’s. The second hum began because of owner Jennifer Cavallaro’s dedication to local ingredients, home-baked breads and pastries, and made-to-order espressos, lattes, and cappuccinos, using locally-roasted fair-trade organic coffee. There are also fair-trade organic teas; milk steamers (including hot chocolate variations); smoothies (with fruit purees and Narragansett Creamery yogurt); plus full breakfast offerings (try eggs, ham, and cheese tucked into a brioche) and lunch goodies (don’t miss the butternut squash sandwich). And then there are the pastries: muffins (think apricot-cream cheese); brownies, made from Belgian chocolate; lemon squares; a carrot cake supreme; those mythical pies; and biscotti — consider chocolate hazel-nut or lemon walnut pepper.
