LUXE BURGER BAR is another rousing success for John Elkhay and the Chow Fun Food Group, this time specializing in build-your-own designer burgers via checklist, featuring unusual suspects like Habañero cheddar, fried egg and, pastrami. There are surprisingly modest prices (the Kobe starts at $9.99) and daily specials ($.99 meatball sliders on Wednesdays, half-price apps on Friday afternoons), and DJs spinning on weekends — get your pop and lock on while awaiting tasty apps like the crack-addictive buffalo calamari. Or just go for the $10 Fatty Melt (two grilled cheese sandwiches in place of buns — ridiculous) or the Frankenstein burger ($15), loaded with chili, slaw, two burgers, double cheese, bacon, and a split-grilled hot dog. Less carnivo-rous options include the Black Sabbath turkey burger and Umami, a tuna steak burger with ginger slaw and Wasabi mayo. But come on, it’s all about the beef, namely the Kobe.
