Best Benedict For Brunch

Franklin Spa

Challenge for diner-type spots: come up with something creative for breakfast. Challenge #2: the perfect Benedict, with eggs poached just right and sauce just lemony enough. Challenge #3: vary the other Benedict ingredients and balance it all. FRANKLIN SPA wins all three, with its Brenton Reef Benedict: lobster meat over steamed spinach and grilled tomatoes on a bolo (Por-tuguese sweet bread roll), the eggs perched atop it all, with a tasty Hollandaise and dynamite red bliss home fries. Two other special Benedicts at the Spa feature crabcakes or sirloin, and sev-eral menu items celebrate the owner Rocky Botelho’s Portuguese heritage. The Azorean grinder folds in grilled chourizo and friends; the Azorean sandwich adds eggs to that, for another brunch treat. Other favorite sandwiches are grilled chicken with homemade pesto and “turkey surprise,” with stuffing and cranberry sauce. And don’t overlook the expansive selection of frappes and smoothies. | 229 Spring Street, Newport | 401.847.3540
