GREAT BARNS OF GLOCESTER TOUR
Actually, they’re called “Great Barns” for the GREAT BARNS OF GLOCESTER TOUR, organized each October by the Glocester Manton Library. This will mark the sixth year for the self-guided tour, and the dozen barns that are open for viewing change from year to year. Last year, they included an 18th-century barn on the National Register of Historic Places; a 1733 house officially designated as a Tree and Wildlife Farm; two horse barns, one housing Rhode Island’s heaviest horse (as determined by Rhode Island Horse Weighing — who knew?); more modern barns that house goats, farm equipment, an antique car, an orchard’s market (Barden Orchard), a soap company (Rhode Island Soapworks), and one which lifted off its foundation and twisted in the air during the Hurricane of 1938. In addition to the barns, the tour takes you on many hilly, spiraling back roads that you may never see again! | Pick up maps and pay tour admis-sion at the library, 1137 Putnam Pike, Chepachet | 401.568.6077
