Things change. But sometimes they stay, if not the same, at least a variation on the theme. In the 1920s, the building began as one of those movie palaces popular at the time; more recently it was the Park Street Cinema; and with the decline of second-run movie theaters, last year it became the RHODE ISLAND CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS. In addition to housing the 848 Martini Lounge and the Park Café, it has presented a wide variety of performances, from a tribute to jazz singer Carmen McRae to the Moscow Circus. It’s even a dinner theater, with combined packages available for dining in their banquet hall before attending shows.
