Best Metaphor For Dessert
Galito Restaurant
Nicknames for desserts are always fun, and never more so than when they're being translated from another language. At GALITO RESTAURANT, a dessert called serrabulho becomes "sawdust" in English, not the most alluring thing to contemplate eating. But this bowl of plain Azorean biscuit cookies layered with sweetened, caramel-tasting whipped cream won us over. Most likely the dryness of the original cookies engendered the dessert's name. But there's nothing sawdusty once that whipped cream soaks in. We were also impressed with many other dishes at this friendly Portuguese eatery: a mild bacalhau (salt cod) dish with olive oil and vinegar to spice to your own tastes; a marvelous incarnation of kale-and-potato soup; a tender grilled squid entrée; and an almond paste cake that gave the serrabulho stiff competition. | 214-216 Columbus Avenue, Pawtucket | 401.312.2200 | galitorestaurant.com
