Best Cat-Alyst For Good Times

Mr. Peabody’s Café

Let's face it: a restaurant theme can get out of hand, whether it's overly-cute curtains with embossed fruits and veggies or overly-harsh industrial steel and black accents. MR. PEABODY'S CAFÉ, named after co-owner Michael Quigley's cat, might have gone in the former direction, especially when customers began to add to the feline/leonine theme. But the décorative references to cats are held in check by other motifs: a sky-blue ceiling painted with clouds; large mirrors here and there; no-nonsense tables and chairs. Sure, there are a few cat mentions in the menu (most are sandwiches named after local pets), but the menu for breakfast and lunch is inspired by cook/co-owner Becky Depuis's tastes, which she likens to "white-trash/gourmet fusion." Salmon cakes with sautéed spinach, poached eggs, and wasabi aioli qualify, as does the French toast with Gorgonzola. Even the breakfast pizza with scrambled eggs on top is a wonderful twist for an omelet! | 2005 Broad Street, Cranston | 401.941.2258 |
