The Cooked Goose

Many brunch spots go out of their way to create elaborate buffets or overstuffed French toast to impress their diners. At THE COOKED GOOSE, they do it with carafes of coffee (even bringing both caf and decaf, if requested) and a little something extra in many of their dishes. There is, for example, an unexpected side of asparagus with the truffled eggs; the addition of sliced tomato, along with the spinach, in the eggs Benedict Florentine; the dicing of asparagus inside an omelet to make it easier to manage; and the option of dried cherries among the usual pancake add-ins. Even the sandwiches offer "extras": bacon and Major Grey's chutney in the egg salad; Italian tuna on "The Goose"; basil and cashews in the chicken salad. There's no goose in any form on the menu (thank heavens), but the country-kitchen warmth of a goose profile fits this spot just fine. | 92 Watch Hill Road, Westerly | 401.348.9888 |
