In this age of nouvelle cuisine, it’s not unusual for a server to have to memorize a complicated description of the ingredients and perhaps even the cooking techniques that go into any given entrée in order to rattle them off to customers. With the sophisticated kitchen at Vintage, that’s a must. But a waiter like SETH MANDEVILLE takes his menu introductions to another level. He turns the experience of pondering a menu into something more personal and more fun by throwing in an anecdote or two from his own food tastes (he never liked carrots but he really likes the cook’s carrot-coconut soup) or his wild-and-crazy college days (he’s proud of his own mixture in the ginger martini). Mande¬ville’s exuberance about the drinks and dishes that he serves is infectious. His final tour of the desserts is as detailed and amusing as his other verbal forays, and here again the suggestions lead to thoroughly satisfying results.
