Enough with the cutesy cocktails, those excuses for eye-catching names, or bizarre ingredients for their own sake. We’ve had our last Sake To Me Surprise, with 100-proof rice wine and the fermented and triple-filtered sweat of Shirahama pearl divers (diluted with a generous “splash” of club soda, of course). At FLUKE, the bistro bar makes a point of squeezing fresh juices for their cocktails and carefully considering the variety of liquor (i.e., historically accurate Clément Première Canne white rum in the Hemingway daiquiri). Try their increasingly popular Juniperitivo ($10): Anchor Steam’s Junipero gin for extra berry perfume, lime juice, a hint of pomegranate molasses, and a mint leaf floating on top. Or maybe the variations-on-a-theme Sun Chaser: Ketel One Citron vodka, lemon thyme, Limoncello and fresh lemon juice ($8). Tartly refreshing.
