LA HACIENDA recently expanded to a second location in Olneyville (in the former D'Angelo’s, if that helps), but the original, a streamlined diner wedged between Killingly and Lowell streets, is still one of the best stops when undecided on what to eat for breakfast or meeting up with a particularly picky and/or hungover crew. From the chocolate chip Belgian waffles to the corned beef hash to the banana pancakes, the morning classics are prepared as well as the Mexican specialty platters. The Machanca Nortena is a scrambled egg kitchen-sink favorite, and the chilaquiles with green chicken and eggs is too good to be true for under $7. The Colombian coffee is a robust and welcoming eye-opener. The newer big brother location offers the full array of Mexican specialties (and beers) for dinner; the original opens at 5 am and closes at 5:30 pm.
