Time was when all-you-can-eat meant the groaning tables at Custy’s. But if it’s seafood you’re hunting and chowder is your game, there’s no better spread than at the CHARLESTOWN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SEAFOOD FESTIVAL, marking its 24th year on August 1, 2, and 3. There are more than 100 vendors, half of them are food booths, and a third are seafood booths. Lobster dinners with corn on the cob and boiled red potatoes are a big hit, and scores of clam cakes, gallons of chowder, bushels of oysters, and barrels of steamers will also be consumed. Chowders might be oyster, quahog, shrimp, corn, lobster, or mixtures thereof. With carnival entertainment, rock-climbing, and local bands, you can walk off one course and dive into the next! Just don’t try that bungee jumping on a full stomach!
