Best Statewide Theatrical Buzz
Theater of Thought
As surely as little girls love dressing up and little boys play cowboys and Indians, soon after the first barn was raised, someone slapped his or her knee and said, “Why don’t we put on a show?!” At the Shorebreak, a former Narragansett movie theater, THEATER OF THOUGHT found a space for plays and didn’t even have to move any hay bales. On the basis of a single production there — Neil LaBute’s Bash — the buzz was loud enough to reach Providence, where theater-lovers encouraged Theater of Thought founder Amber Kelly to stage productions in Cranston and Providence that received enthusiastic critical attention. Kelly, who was grabbed up at her first audition when she hit New York City, is a subtle director as well as a compelling actor, as she demonstrated with LaBute’s world of psychological derangement.
