Best Evocation of a Poet's Words

Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum

Rather than the hillsides of Wordsworth’s beloved Lake District, the shores of Narragansett Bay come alive in the spring with “a crowd, a host of golden daffodils,” on the 33-acre estate of BLITHEWOLD MANSION, GARDENS & ARBORETUM. The gardens are filled not just with the poet’s “ten thousand saw I at a glance,” but with multiples of that number, in shades of white, cream, and golden. Walking among them, that distinctively sweet scent of these early spring harbingers will linger in your nostrils, and the sight of so many dancing daffodils will fill your heart with as much joy as Wordsworth’s. Daffodil Days run through May 4, with afternoon teas and special floral exhibits, plus bloom updates on Blithewold’s garden blog. The grounds are open for self-guided tours on Wednesday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm | 101 Ferry Road (Route 114), Bristol | 401.253.2707 | blithewold.org
