Concerts Under the Elms
If it’s summer, there’s outdoor music almost every night in Rhode Island. And if it’s Thursdays at 6:30 pm in Providence, there’s no better place to be than on the lawn of the John Brown House Museum for the CONCERTS UNDER THE ELMS series. This year’s schedule runs from June 26 through August 7 (no concert on July 3), and ranges from Cajun to Celtic to jazz to pops to blues with Duke Robillard on July 10. If the concerts peak your interest in the museum itself, you can schedule a tour of this 1788 home to businessman, slave trader, and China trade merchant John Brown. After his death, it was home to his daughters and their families, and then the winter residence of the Gammell family. In the early 20th century, it was the home of Providence utility, trolley, and real estate magnate Marsden Perry.
