THE BARN is exclusively a breakfast restaurant, opening at 6:30 and closing at noon on weekdays, and celebrating weekends with lazy 7 am to 1 pm hours. They have many varieties of omelets, sometimes offer crêpes, and always list their why-didn’t-I-think-of-that eggnog French toast. But most interesting are the four variations on eggs Benedict ($8.25 to $10.95), in addition to the traditionally prepared poached egg on ham and English muffin under Hollandaise sauce. Oddly enough, there are no eggs Florentine, which is often the only variation at restaurants, substituting spinach for the ham. No, here the spinach version is eggs Sardou, with artichoke hearts, roasted garlic, and the greenery creamed under the Hollandaise. But vying for first place in specialness is the one with lobster and asparagus and another they call “Eggs On the Bayou,” which substitutes crabcakes for the muffins and a spicier Creole sauce. Exquisite.
